A creator sends you a great video. You download it, run it as an ad, it works — and three months later you get a takedown notice, because the rights you thought you had never existed. Licensing is the least glamorous part of UGC and the most expensive to get wrong.

the rights that actually matter

Organic posting rights: can you publish it on your own channels? Paid usage rights: can you put media spend behind it — and for how long? Whitelisting rights: can you run it from the creator's handle? Editing rights: can you cut it, subtitle it, remix it into other ads? Each one is separate. None is implied.

duration is the silent killer

Most creator agreements default to 30 or 90 days of paid usage. If your evergreen campaign is still spending on a video in month seven, you're exposed. Track expiry dates per asset, not per campaign.
